NEW GOERGE ROMERO MOVIE
I'm really looking forward to checking out LAND OF THE DEAD. It opens tonight. I love all the other zombie picks in the trilogy and I even liked the remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD, and I usually hate remakes. The new movie actually looks like Romero had a fairly sizable budget to work with. Maybe I should take my wife to this for our anniversary? I realize that it's not really romantic but she does like horror movies and I already got her flowers. I'll have to give this some thought.
I have just recently seen REVENGE OF THE SITH and BATMAN BEGINS. I really liked these movies. A lot of my friends have been commenting that the new STAR WARS movie is the best in the series. Maybe, but I really thought THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK was hard to beat, but I haven't seen it in a while. I know a couple of people who are waiting for the DVD to come out so that they can watch all of the STAR WARS movies straight through in one sitting. Man, I think I don't have a life, but I don't know if even I could get to that point. Maybe if I was on heroin. I mean I like the movies, but thats a level of fandom that I can't reach. Even if I wanted to, how could you find the time, I mean how long would it take to watch them all straight through? 12 hours or more. Well guys, good luck with that.
Speaking of the new Batman movie, it's about time that they made a good one. The others were spotty at best. This one really seems to capture the mythology and does it some justice. Hopefully they will be able to keep making the franchise with this level of quality.
Other movies that I want to see: THE FANTASTIC FOUR and WAR OF THE WORLDS. Being that the second one is a remake I might find a lot to hate about it, but it does look like it may be good. Actually both of these films look like they could go either way based on the trailers that I've seen.
Still trying to find more info on the Roky Erickson flick that is being written. I know that there is a piece about Roky in the new MOJO magazine, but I haven't been able to get my hands on an issue yet.
NEW ROLLING STONES TOUR
I've heard the the tickets are going to be around $180 or so. I don't know of anybody that I would pay that much too see. I've already seen the Stones and I did enjoy it immensely, but lets face it, they were past there prime when I saw them in '88 and they really haven't gotten better since then. I haven't heard any of the new stuff that is coming out soon, but I really don't think that the old boys are going to surprise me. Believe me, I'll be really happy if they do, but I just don't think it's in the cards.
I also think that charging that much for concert tickets is just wrong. They have a right to charge whatever they want, but when the cost is that high, I think they might be taking themselves a wee bit too seriously. I mean, yer gonna have to pay more than you ever did to see the band and they are nowhere near as good as they used to be. I might pay the $180 I guess, if that included the expense of time travel to go see the Stones in '66 or '72 or somewhere in between but certainly not now.
And remember, if I wasn't writing about all of this pointless stuff, I'd be writing about the latest Supreme Court decision in regards to private property and the public good. Let's face it gang, nobody wants that.
