Now that the holidays are over your probably wondering what to do with the money that you got after returning all of those lame ties, glow in the dark underwar, and Avril Lavighn CD's. (I'm not sure that's how it's spelled, but really, who cares).
I've got the answer for ya. A freind of mine asked me to recommend some rock 'n' roll DVDs, so here you go, have at 'em.
IGGY& the STOOGES-LIVE in DETROIT
I was a little worried when I first heard about the Stooges deciding to get back together and do some shows. I mean how many times have we seen once great rock 'n' rollers come back from the ashes and embarrass themselves in a last ditch grab to relive past glories? Well I shouldn't have worried. I mean it is the STOOGES after all.
Let's face it, The Stooges worst rehearsal session is better than a lot of big time stars best efforts. C'mon, you gotta love a band who asks the record company for an advance telling them that they need it for drugs. You gotta love a band who's lead singer gets the crap beat out of him by a biker and then invites the guy and his gang to come to the next show and throw eggs at the band while they play. Would Bono be this cool? No, he wouldn't.
This DVD catches the band back on their home turf of Detroit and it doesn't dissapoint. It's a great show and the bonus material of the Stooges playing in a record store is good as well.
Well what else can I say, It's the Stooges fer criminy's sake. Go Buy it.
The CRAMPS-LIVE at NAPA MENTAL HOSPITAL
Forget all the labels that have been attached to this band. These guys are a ROCK 'N' ROLL BAND. Pure 100%, uncut, adreline pumped, get yer rocks off, thud, stomp, and roll.
This DVD is the band in the early days. As the title implies it's footage of the band playing a show at a mental hospital. The quality may not always be the best at times but the content of this transcends any of the technical flaws.
If you pride yourself on being a crazy rock 'n' roll animal you really need to get this thing. The story goes that something like 12 patients escaped during or after the show. How cool is that?
JOHNNY THUNDERS and the HEARTBREAKERS-DEAD or ALIVE
This DVD came with a book about Johnny. The DVD is concert footage of the Heartbreakers in England. It's great to see some footage of this great and seminal band. Johnny does seem to be messed up during the proceedings but what else would you expect if you know any of the legend.
Thunders was one of the best guitarists to walk the planet and has made some of the best music out there. This is just a part of the legacy that the man left behind. Great concert footage and interview as well as a few other goodies.
There are just a couple of things you all ought to run out and get. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
