R.I.P.- LINK WRAY
I just found out the news today. Link Wray has left this planet at the age of 76. The guy was still playing guitar and kicking ass 'till the end. I don't know what I can say about the guy that isn't already being or will be said. The man was, without question, a legend. I know that word gets thrown around a lot but it is the truth in regards to Link Wray.
His music has been used in numerous films and commercials, and he was a pioneer of the raunchy guitar sound. Probably everybody has heard one of the guys riffs, whether they knew what it was or not. "Rumble" and "Jack the Ripper" are tunes you've likely heard, and his music has been in films like "Pulp Fiction" and "Desperado" (the film, nothing to do with the Eagles piece of shit) to name only a few.
Without Link Wray the kind of music that I obsess over would may not even exist. Heavy Metal may not exist. There may not have been the Cramps, without Link Wray having come before. The list would go on and on. His music is kick ass all the way. The sound was dirty, crunchy, and greasy. Perfection when it comes to rock n roll. If you are not familiar with the sounds of this guy now is the time to rectify that situation. Norton records has a great collection of his stuff and should be the first place you look. And look you should. If you consider yourself to be a rock n roller then there ain't no excuse for not having a record of his in your collection. His music is the perfect soundtrack for:drinking, fighting, F@#%&king, and basically just partying till you drop.
Plunk some Link wray on the music machine tonight and raise a bottle in honor of the Godfather of the Power Chord.

I hadn't heard that Link Wray had died. That's too bad. Nice write up.
